WHAT IS AUTOTREN?
Autotrén is a rapid transit system based on GRT (Group Rapid Transit) technology that offers agile and sustainable mobility, particularly for congested urban corridors and medium sized cities.
It uses a fleet of very light, electric, driverless trains. Each train has 1 to 4 vehicles, each seating 6 or 8 passengers, for a total of up to 24 or 32 passengers per train depending on the vehicle model. The trains travel on an exclusive guideway network, usually elevated or underground. Track width is half the width of a bus lane or conventional train track. Passenger stations are modular, small-footprint buildings. Service is optionally driven by demand, by fixed schedules and routes, or a combination of both. The system achieves high capacity and very high service levels at low cost through intelligent passenger grouping and continuous flows of people and vehicles.

HOW IT WORKS?
See the video! Before boarding, passengers select their destination at self-service kiosks. The system continuously groups passengers so that all passengers in one train share the same destination (or group of destinations). In this way, trains can make express trips to their destinations without having to make unnecessary intermediate stops. All passenger stations are located on secondary “off-line” tracks so that traffic flow on the main tracks never stops. Thanks to the state-of-the art control system, trains on the main tracks can travel at very small separations (headways). Separation intervals between trains can be as low as a few seconds.
BENEFITS

CITIZENS
Users enjoy the simultaneous combination of guaranteed seat (even in rush hour), with express travel at an average speed of 40-45 km/h (twice as fast as aerial ropeways, conventional trams, buses on dedicated lanes, even private cars at rush hour).
All this at public transport fares!

GOVERNMENTS
Governments are widely recognized by their constituencies for responding to the need to improve urban mobility, making rational use of public money, and taking action to mitigate human-induced climate change.

TRANSIT OPERATORS
Transit operators remain in business and even expand their business by attracting additional users beyond their captive base – users who value a guaranteed seat, increased safety and security, and faster service, and will thus be motivated to use public transport.

PRIVATE OPERATORS
Airports, amusement parks, resorts, or large real estate developments increase revenues and customer satisfaction levels with a lower investment than conventional APM or monorail technology.
IMPLEMENTATION
Autotrén is typically implemented within the framework of a public transportation reform, in which highly pulverized bus concessions (with little accountability and poor service) are replaced with formal route concessions (with more accountability and higher service levels), as well as comprehensive projects that allocate more space for pedestrians and bikers, not just cars.

STREET DOMINATED BY SINGLE-BUS CONCESSIONS AND MOTORIZED TRAFFIC
Autotrén potentiates the reform of public transport concession in those corridors where BRT and subway are not viable, and replaces polluting combustion vehicles with electric vehicles.
